Proverbs 16:24 {printables}

This post may contain affiliate or advertiser links. Please review my disclosure policy.
With my daughter's My Father's World 1st grade curriculum, she is learning Bible verses from Proverbs. To help her remember them, I have made printables for her for each of the Proverbs covered in the curriculum. We put an 8.5x11 of the verse up on our Bible board and I also scale it down and print it onto a blank 4x6 inch index card to go into her Bible verse memory book.

I also created printable copywork for each of the verses. Once she completes the copywork, I hole punch it and put it in a 3-ring folder so that we have another record of her verses. Plus, it is nice to be able to look back and see how her penmanship improves! As we move along and cover more verses, I will continue to add them.

You can download the docs by clicking on each of the images.

FYI: The curriculum does come with blank pages to use for the copywork. However, I made these to coordinate with the memory verse pages above. Plus, I just think they are so darn cute and my kids are loving them!

Our Calendar Notebook

This post may contain affiliate or advertiser links. Please review my disclosure policy.
I love the idea of calendar time, but I always found it to be a bit difficult with multiple children the exact same ages and similar skill levels. It was always hard to decide who would get to do what. But, once I saw the idea of using calendar binders on Mrs. Meacham's Classroom Snapshots, I knew I had to try it out.  (I did create some additional pages and pulled from some other resources to create our notebook. Downloads and links are below.) Since starting our calendar notebooks (I guess technically ours is a binder as well…since we do use a 1/2 inch 3-ring binder, but we refer to them as notebooks…), we have had no troubles at all…and we have been using them for almost 3 months now!

Each of the kids have their own notebook, which means that they are all doing the activities…and no one is left out of anything. We use our calendar notebooks along with our calendar time board (I got the idea for the board from the 1+1+1=1 website. To see our calendar board in action click here.) Anyhow, they complete their daily activities in their notebooks in the mornings after they do their chores (before breakfast) while I get the little boys changed and dressed. KJ is kind of in charge of helping out the big boys as needed. Once we “officially” begin our school day (after breakfast), we go over what they did in their notebook with the help of the calendar time board.

Here is our notebook, and the pages inside. I have included download links to the printables that I have made as well as links to other printables that we use for our calendar notebook.
album 2.22.10 016
Cover Page: The kids all enjoyed coloring their very own cover page.

    album 2.22.10 017
Monthly Calendar Pages: The kids write in the correct number for each day of the month. I was able to download these pages from the Meach Calendar website.

 album 2.22.10 018
Written Date Page: Right now, my daughter is the only one who does this page. I created these so that she gets daily practice with writing the date.

    album 2.22.10 021
Make The Date With Money: I created this page to practice counting coins. The kids have to “make the date” using the coin cards. For example, the pic above was taken on the 15th day of the month, hence the dime and nickel for 15 cents. I use a  9 pocket sports card page protector for this one. I also put a blank page behind it so that the background is solid page…rather than the next page of the notebook.

    album 2.22.10 022
How Many Days of School: Each day the kids write in the number of days we have been in school. For example, when this pic was taken we were having the 26th day of school for this year. I also got this page from the Meach Calendar website. (The download is a little tough to find…scroll all the way down to the bottom of the page where it says "Blank 100th Day Grids.)

 album 2.22.10 024
Hundreds Tens Ones: We use this page to work on place value. We use a  sports card page protector for this as well (with a blank page behind it). Each day they add a sticker to the ones card and put the appropriate number below. Once there are ten stickers on the card, it is moved over to the tens column. The number corresponds to the How Many Days of School page. For example, this photo was taken on our 26th day of school. There are two sets of cards with ten stickers in the tens column and one card with six stickers in the ones column.

    album 2.22.10 025
Tally Marks: Each day the kids add another tally mark. This also coordinates with the How Many Days of School page.  For example, this pic was taken on our 26th day of school this year. The kids also get daily practice with counting by fives.

 album 2.22.10 026
Weather Graph: Each day the kids take a peek outside and fill in the graph. I got this page from Homeschool Highway.

UPDATE: Apparently, the weather graph (above) and birthday graph (below)are no longer available on Homeschool Highway. You can download some similar pages from the Meach Calendar Site.

album 2.22.10 027
Birthday Graph: If it is someone birthday, the kids fill in their graph. All of a sudden lots of our stuffed animals have been having birthdays!  :-) I also got this page from Homeschool Highway.

So, that wraps up our calendar notebook. As I stated, we use it in conjuction with our calender time board. If you have questions, please feel free to ask. We love this system and I plan on using it for quite awhile!!!

Jolanthe posted about her calendar time for Preschool Corner, so I decided to link up what we are doing.

Doll Mittens & Earmuffs {tutorial}

This post may contain affiliate or advertiser links. Please review my disclosure policy.
album 2.5.10 030KJ’s doll has become a part of our family. Whatever KJ has, she wants the same for her doll. So, here is a quick little tutorial on how to make mittens and earmuffs for a doll. All you need is a regular old mitten.

First, cut off two fingers of the mitten and cut off the wristband part. At this point, you have your doll mittens and earmuffs (which can double as a headband.) The fingers that you cut are the gloves and the wristband is the earmuffs.

album 2.5.10 023
But, if you want to embellish them a bit, you can use beads. We had some snowflake shaped beads that I glued onto the mittens and earmuffs.  Use a hot glue gun if you want them to be ready sooner. Otherwise, you will need to let them dry overnight.

Now, put them on your doll!!! Here are our earmuffs/headband…

…and here are our mittens!

Stay tuned for more “stuff” for a doll!  :-)  We got this super cute doll idea from Things To Make For Your Doll.

Growing Weary...

This post may contain affiliate or advertiser links. Please review my disclosure policy.
As of late, I have just been feeling...I don't know...out of it...unmotivated...not sure how to describe it. This morning while I was in the shower, the Lord put Galations 6:9 on my heart. At that moment, I knew exactly how I was feeling...weary...of doing good.

And let us not grow weary of doing good,
for in due season we will reap,
if we do not give up.
-Galations 6:9

Ladies, please remember that raising your children is a down right tough job (especially it you add homeschooling on top of it!!!), but it is all well worth it! All of the little and big things involved in keeping my home and raising my kids began to weigh on me. But, I was encouraged by this!!!

But they who wait for the Lord
shall renew their strength;
they shall mount up with wings like eagles;
they shall run and not be weary;
they shall walk and not faint.
-Isaiah 40:31

I don't know if I am speaking to anyone else, but I KNOW for sure that I am talking to myself! You know, sometimes you just have to encourage yourself in the Word...know what I mean?!?!? So, with that, Jenn (and anyone else who this may apply to) do not grow weary! Do not give up! Wait on the Lord and HE will renew your strength!!! Mount up and soar. Run the race that the Lord has called you to!

Is it just me who has been battling weariness or am I "preaching to the choir"?  :-)

Noah's Ark {paper plate} Craft

This post may contain affiliate or advertiser links. Please review my disclosure policy.
The Boat of Many Rooms: The Story of Noah in VerseWe made this little Noah's Ark craft when we were learning about Noah. One of the books that we read along with our actual Bible stories was The Boat of Many Rooms: The Story of Noah in Verse.

The craft was lots of fun and fairly easy to make, except for me having to cut out all the animals!  :-)

Here is what we used to make each ark:
2 paper plates
paint & paintbrushes
Rainbow shaped animals and Noah (printed from Making Learning Fun)

First, cut one of the paper plates and let your little one paint both pieces brown. (NOTE: You don't want both sides to be the exact same size...so don't cut in half...this is so that you can have two levels on your ark! If you only want one level, you could just use one half plate. My kids wanted to include so many animals that we had to make two levels.)

Next, have you little one paint a rainbow on the top 3/4 of the other plate. Meanwhile, print the animals and Noah from the link above and commence to cutting them out. There are lots of animals to choose from. I let me kiddos decide which animals they wanted on their ark. (NOTE: I did scale these down when I printed them so that they would fit onto the ark!) Once you have finished cutting, let your little one color their animals.
The pic above gives you an idea of what your pieces might look like. Sorry, Noah is not pictured here. :-) I didn't think the Noah looked like Noah...as if I really know how he looked. But the kids insisted that you can't have Noah's Ark...without Noah. So, you can see in the pic below that Noah is now included!  :-)

Once everything is dry, staple the brown plates to the rainbow plate so that the rainbow is showing and your ark has two levels. Next, let you little one glue down all the pieces. This is what my kiddos arks look like.

We had a blast making these. I think the hardest part was doing all the cutting (for me) and waiting for the paint to dry (for the kids.)

Jean Welles Worship Guitar Class {Review}

This post may contain affiliate or advertiser links. Please review my disclosure policy.
I was contacted and asked to consider reviewing the Jean Welles Worship Guitar Class DVD Volume 1. Since my three oldest children have expressed interest in music, I was thrilled about this awesome opportunity!

So, when I sat down to watch the DVD (with KJ's guitar in hand) I was immediately impressed by how Christ-centered Jean's message was. She often encouraged us to stop and pray and ask God to help us as we learn. She also suggested that we consider our lessons and practice a time of worship!

Once we got into the lessons, I was so surprised at how easy Jean made it look to play the guitar! You can view the first lesson from the DVD below.

Although Jean made it look so easy, I still felt like I was struggling a bit. (FYI: I have no experience with playing the guitar. I used to play the piano, violin, and clarinet...but that was a LONG time ago!) However, she did encouraged us to stop the DVD to work on the chords. Much to my surprise and relief, I discovered that in addition to the regular lessons, she also has practice sessions on the DVD. This is exactly what I needed! She slowed things down and provided extra help with the chords and pitch. How awesome! I love that she does this because a fast learner can just go through the regular lessons and not become bored while a slower learner (like myself) can get extra practice as needed!

As for the details of the DVD, it is broken down into the following sections:
Introduction
Parts of the Guitar
Tuning the Guitar
Lessons 1-7
Practice Session
Language Selection (There are Spanish subtitles!)

With each lesson, you learn a new song. The seven songs taught on this DVD are:
"He's Got The Whole World"
"My All In All"
"More Precious Than Silver"
"Lord, I Lift Your Name On High"
"This Is The Day"
"I Love You Lord" (This is a personal favorite of mine. I find that I sing it in the shower...alot!)

In addition to these seven worship songs, Jean teaches ten chords, one new strumming pattern (straight strum as well as thumb strum), and two new picking patterns. The DVD comes with a booklet (written in both English and Spanish.) which includes all of the music taught.

Overall, I was VERY pleased with the DVD! I think it is a wonderful way to take worship guitar lessons in your own home! As an added bonus on her site, she provides free guitar playing tips as well as a chord chart ebook! Plus, she has children's worship guitar lessons, which I am very interested in!!!

On a semi-side note, a friend of mine noticed the DVD on my desk while we were having our church small group. Before I had watched the DVD, she asked me if I had plans for leading worship for our group. I laughed and quickly said no. However, after having watched the DVD, I feel as though I could help with a song or two...with a little more practice that is!  :-)  Thanks Jean for such a wonderful resource!!! Be sure to head over to WorshipGuitarClass.com to see more of what Jean has to offer!!!

This product was given to me (free of charge) for review purposes. I was not paid for this post. All opinions expressed in this post are my own.
