The My Father's World 1st grade curriculum that we use comes with two really great art books, Exploring Landscape Art with Children
Although we didn't use the books as much as I had hoped this past year with my daughter, I hope to implement some of them this upcoming school year. I was particularly interested to see the Discovering African American Art for Children.
Here are some of the other books in the series:

Welcome to my main blog!

I recently found your blog (I think through Totally Tots), and was just wondering if you could give me some feedback on MFW 1st grade? We did the Kinder last year and are planning to do 1st this year, even though my daughter just turned 5 this spring.
ReplyDeleteI was just wondering if you went with the curriculum exactly, if you found yourself implementing other things on your own, if you found their "extra books" to be useful/helpful, etc.
We're planning to use Math U See for our math this year.
Thanks so much for your feedback if you have time!

You should check out Usborne's Art Sticker Book [http://www.amazon.com/Usborne-Art-Sticker-Book/dp/0794524893/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1277323110&sr=8-1] as a supplement :)
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to doing this! It looks wonderful!
ReplyDeleteYou are so good with art and crafty things!!
ReplyDeleteThat shall be a goal for next year to get messy!
My Dad says the kids need to come to the farm for "dirt camp" just so they can get dirty. :)
I love planning too!! I planned in April!! I will have baby #4 in July Lord willing and thought it might be too much to plan and be so close to having a newborn. Anyway, Happy Planning So glad you are almost done with school! YEAH!!!!
We used MFW this year too and loved it! I was surprised at how interested my son became in the art books. His favorite was by far the landscapes. I think the portraits were a bit over his head. I'm glad to have them, though, and plan to use them next year also.
ReplyDeleteI totally relate to having more enthusiasm for the planning than the execution. I do love teaching my kids, but I'm a planner for sure.
