On My Nightstand…

album 4.30.10 101We read lots of books around here. In fact, I usually have at least five or so books on my nightstand {along with my Bible, my journal, and all the other little knick knack things that the kids seem to leave there} that I am in the process of reading. Here is what’s currently on my nightstand…

From the top down…

Parent’s Guide for Keepers at Home & Contenders for the Faith by Jeff & Susan Zakula ~ I purchased Keepers at Home for KJ and Little Contenders for the Faith the older twin boys in hopes of starting our own little Keepers Club. I am in the process of reading the parent’s guide before we dive in.

Desperate Households by Kathy Peel ~ This is a library book that I am finding to be quite helpful in me identifying myself and my role as the “family manager” …more to come on this!  :-)

Shepherding a Child’s Heart by Tedd Tripp ~ I have heard alot of good stuff about this book. It was recommended by one of our pastors. I can’t wait to dig into it!!!

Bringing Out The Best in Your Child by Cynthia Tobias & Carol Funk ~ My mother-in-law {who happens to be the principal at a Christian preschool} gave me this book after I had talked about how the big boys have different learning styles and what I do to accommodate the differences.

For the Children's Sake by Susan Macaulay ~ I received this book when I purchased our My Father’s World Kindergarten curriculum. The book talks about the Charlotte Mason approach to teaching and learning. I never did read the book when I first got it, but I figure better late than never…right?!?!?

Let the Children Come Along the Virtuous Way by Gary & Anne Marie Ezzo ~ We used this “textbook” during a parenting seminar that we took awhile back. I have been feeling like I need to “revisit it” and get back on track with a few things.

Taking Care of the Me in Mommy by Lisa Whelchel ~ I have read this book before and I love it and I am reading it again…because I need to do a better job of taking care of ME!!!!! It is REAL book with PRACTICIAL ways for mommy’s to take care of themselves spiritually, emotionally, physically, etc…LOVE IT!!!!

Creative Correction by Lisa Whelchel ~ I have also read this before, but I am reading through it again…I am always in need of new and innovative ways to help with correcting my kiddos!

Well, that’s what’s on my nightstand!!!

  1. Wow! Good for you for getting all that reading in! I am a new follower of yours and I'm so thankful for the homeschooling tips you have shared. I only have one book besides my bible on my night stand because I seem to have to finish one book at a time. I got Dr. Dobson's Bringing Up Girls and I'll probably have to revisit his Bringing Up Boys afterward. I usually have a fun book on the go to, but I guess I've been reading blogs for my fun reads lately. As summer starts the blogs slow down, so I'll have to find a good summer read. All that to say, thanks for sharing. I'm going to have to check these books out.

  2. Oh, that reminds me...I STILL have not read Bringing Up Boys. My husband said he wanted to read it, so he has been holding on to it for at least 6 months now...I think he forgot about it...but, it does tend to take him longer to read books than me. Perhaps I should sneak it from him and get it read before he even knows it's missing! :-)

  4. We are doing the video series of Shepherding a Child's heart, and I have been so convicted and encouraged by it. You will not be disappointed.

  5. Love all of the titles. Have read shepharding a child's heart. And have been racking my brain for the Keeper's At Home book. I need to read most of these titles, but have 3 on my nightstand...one titled The Blessing...how to bless our children! It's a good one too!
Thanks for your list of scriptures and since my kiddos are older now and we did MFW 1st grade, I'll be giving them a small notebook for morning devotions with one scripture to look up and write about everyday this summer! My heart is so full right now as I'm leaning on HIM for directions of when to bring my older ones back home full time! Homeschooling has been quite a journey, but God knows and knows the hearts of all of us!

  6. I can't wait to hear what you think of the Parent's Guide for Keepers and Contenders, I've been thinking about reading those.
And, I love Lisa Welchel's books too.

  7. Looks like my bedside reading stack! Including several of the same titles! If you like the ones we have in common, I'm betting I'll like the others you've discussed. Time to add to my stack!

  8. I just got Creative Correction at Women of faith, and heard the author speak there, it was AWESOME! I haven't gotten very far in the book, so I don't know how the book actually is, but I am excited to read it! :)

  9. Some of the things in Creative Correction were "no brainers" but it's nice to have that reminder because sometimes in the middle of parenting, you forget the common sense things. :) I just requested her other book on your list. Thanks for sharing! :)
