We Had To Do It!!!

Well, we had to do it...move the babies to their toddler beds that is. They both can climb up and onto the side of the cribs. I have seen both of them do it at least twice. Fortunately, they haven't fallen. I just happen to be coming into the room just as they are about to go over...each time. So, the other day I found TJ straddling the rail and that was the last straw. I decided then and there that they were going to sleep in their toddler beds. But, if you recall, we tried this once before with the babies and it was a complete disaster.

Well, a friend of mine clued me in on a little tip. She put a door handle with a lock on her sons door. So, Husby took the handle off our bathroom door (has a lock on it) and switched it with the handle from the babies door (no lock). Now, when he put the handle on the babies door, be put the lock on the outside rather than the inside. This way, we can basically lock the babies in their room. With the door closed, they can't see what is going on down the hall. So, knowing that we had the lock, I wasn't as petrified at the thought of moving them to the toddler beds again. So, that is what I did and it worked great!!! They cried for awhile and then we heard them kicking the wall. But, they eventually fell asleep and it was virtually painless for me. Boy, what a transition from last time!

We did make sure that the room was completely safe for them...since they would have full reign of the room all night long. Just before bed we opened up their door so that we could hear them during the night. We put the baby gate up at the door so that they couldn't come out if they happened to wake up in the middle of the night. I am pleased to report that it was a success. I think we can take the cribs apart now without the possibility of having to put them back together again! Here are some pics of the babies. This is how we found them just before Husby and I went to bed.
This is how Husby found them when he got up the following morning. We do have two toddler beds in the room. I guess they like sleeping together too!
I guess this means that my babies are babies no more! I say that with mixed emotions!

  1. So, with my twins we also got two toddler beds, and they also chose to sleep in one toddler bed.
Mine figured out how to defeat the baby gate with their combined weight. They both leaned on it, and it fell over. Sigh, they get very inventive.

  2. We will be working on getting our twins into beds soon as well. We have opted to not do toddler beds, but instead twin beds (no pun intended). We will just put the mattress (and boxspring?) on the floor with no frame...for now. Just in case they roll out of bed. I appreciate this post and thanks for the good ideas! They are our firsts and only's...for now so this is a first-time gig for us!

  3. Sounds exciting! I remember when we moved our twins from cribs to toddler beds and then from toddler beds to twin beds! Good times! ;-)
