Last week my husband and I took the kids to see lambs at the lambing barn. We thought it would be neat for the kids to see the lambs up close. Plus, we were able to kind of relate the lambs and the barn back to the play they saw a few days prior, "Charlotte's Web." JJ kept looking around and asking if Templeton, the rat, was there. I told him that there just might be a Templeton somewhere around there! :-) So, he was on the lookout, but we never saw one. But, what we did was pretty cool. The kids got to see baby lambs nursing their mother. I explained what was going on and KJ said, "Hey mom, they are getting milk from their mommy like how you used to give milk to the babies except theirs in under them and yours are on your belly!" I cracked up laughing!!! So, we began to move around the barn looking at the different lambs and we noticed a group of people gathered over in the corner. We got closer only to discover that one of the lambs was in labor. Would you believe that we got to see a lamb being born. Yes, we saw everything...and so did the kids. The boys and the babies didn't pay that much attention, but Miss KJ did!!! In my mind, all I could think about was how I was NOT ready to have to have "that" conversation with her yet! Fortunately it didn't really come up. I think she was more surprised that she actually saw a baby lamb come out. She told me that she thought the mommy lamb was going to "have an egg." Kids say some of the funniest things!!!

Oh my heavens, this was so very cute. Especially when she said she thought the mom was going to have an egg. I am cracking up.
ReplyDeleteThat's too cute. I had to explain something I wasn't ready for when my 4yr old girl asked about some of the after effects of natural birth - if you know what I'm getting at. It's kind of hard to hide some things with her as my always present little shadow. I tried to keep my explanation as simple as possible and she didn't ask again so I hope I did okay!
