More is Caught than Taught

This has become so evident to me now that I have finally given up on trying to have separate lessons for my 5 year old and the 3 year olds. Things were getting pretty hectic trying to homeschool the big three all while fitting it into the babies schedule. Don't get me wrong, homeschooling your kids does take dedication, but I was spending WAY too much time trying to plan out two different lessons and get them to flow together to teach 3 kids. KJ is using the kindergarten version of My Father's World with some supplementing. The boys are using the 3 year old version of Hands on Homeschooling (I used this for KJ when she was 3). A homeschooling friend of mine overheard me talking about how time consuming things had become and she gave me some great advice that I want to share. She told me that when homeschooling younger kids, just make sure that you focus on the older child, but involve the younger children. So, rather than two separate lessons, one lesson focusing on what the oldest needs to learn and adapting it so that the younger ones can participate. What great advice and boy has it worked! The boys already know more now than KJ knew at their age...just because they have "caught" what has been "taught" to big sis. Man, I feel like such a burden has been lifted off of me.
